Animal Protection League Of Springfield, Illinois
The Animal Protective League of Springfield, Illinois is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the cause of protecting homeless animals and providing them with a safe and comfortable shelter until we are able to find them a permanent home. Euthanization is not an option at APL. We give our dogs and cats all of the necessary vaccinations for good health. All of our dogs and cats are microchipped, spayed/neutered and heartworm or FeLV/FIV tested.
Pet Adoption
Our goal is to rescue homeless animals and find them a caring home that is full of love and devotion toward their new family member. To that end we offer an adoption service for all the animals that we have in our care. To adopt a pet you must fill out our adoption form and questionnaire and meet our stringent adoption guidelines. The fee for adoption is $50 per pet. Come on in and take a look around and see if any of our animals tug at your heart string.
Pet Seminars
Once you have your new pet you need to know the proper care that they need to be healthy. To help you with your new pet we hold monthly pet seminars. The seminars are usually 1-2 hours in long and we’re sure you will find tons of useful information for your new pet. The seminars are free but donations and contributions are kindly accepted.
Obedience Classes
For you dog lovers, we offer monthly obedience classes. Lance Brown is our own certified dog trainer and is nationally recognized as one of the best. Lance has trained many trophy winners and we are pleased to have him as one of our volunteer staff. There is nothing more satisfying than an obedient pet and we are sure you will be pleased with the results.
Volunteers
We are always looking for a helpful hand. If you love animals and want to make a difference in the lives of thousands of homeless animals in our city then we would gladly accept you as a volunteer. Our hours of operation are 7 am to 7 pm, so come on by, even if all you have to spare is an hour we will put you to work. All we ask is that you be over the age of sixteen. If you want to stay the day then be sure to bring a lunch and dinner. Remember, working with animals and cleaning cages can be dirty work so please dress accordingly.

The APL is a non-profit organization so we rely solely on your generous contributions and donations. Any donation, no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated. Donations need not be just monetary either. Below is a list of items that we use on a regular basis and are always in need of.
